$8.4M Ground Transportation Center opens at MacArthur
Town of Islip officials unveiled a new Ground Transportation Center at MacArthur Airport on Thursday.
The 12,000-square-foot facility centralizes all ground transportation to serve visitors and travelers, with rental cars, taxis, buses, auto transport, ride-hailing services, hotel courtesy shuttles and Suffolk Bus available in one place.
The $8.4 million project was mostly funded by airport-customer facility charges and bonds that are payable solely from airport revenues. Additional funding came from an $800,000 New York State Aviation Grant and a $650,000 capital grant from Empire State Development, through the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council, that was awarded to the Town
